Laurence Nicholls is a qualified Commercial Pilot on both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft with over 50 years of aviation expertise. Since 1974, he has built a global reputation for delivering tailored aircraft sales and leasing solutions—from corporate jets and turbo props to helicopters and commercial airliners from leading manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus.
Combining hands-on flying experience with deep industry knowledge, Laurence offers clients precision, integrity, and unmatched access to a trusted international network. Under his leadership, Jet Freighters Sub-Saharan Africa delivers every transaction with efficiency, transparency, and a commitment to long-term value.
JOHAN BORSTLAP – OPERATION DIRECTOR
Commercial Airline Pilot (ATP Licence) & Aviation Executive
Johan Borstlap brings over 40 years of aviation leadership to Jet Freighters Sub-Saharan Africa. Since beginning his career in 1978, he has held senior roles across airlines, aviation maintenance, fuel supply, airport operations, government tourism agencies, and official delegations. His breadth of experience ensures operational leadership delivered with precision and insight.
A licensed Airline Transport Pilot (ATP), Johan spent 25 years as an airline captain, commanding aircraft ranging from Boeing 727s, 737s, MD-80s, and DC-9s to Gulfstream G-III jets and multiple turbo-prop models. His career spans the full spectrum of commercial jet operations.
Before co-founding Jet Freighters SSA, Johan served as Managing Director and Chief Pilot at BOP Air, where he notably flew the presidential Gulfstream G-III aircraft—an assignment that underscores the level of trust placed in his professionalism. In 1994, he led the transition of BOP Air into Sun Air, expanding operations to a fleet of 12 passenger jets, including Boeing 727s, DC-9s, and MD-82s. Under his leadership, Sun Air earned national recognition, being named Best Domestic Airline in South Africa by ASATA/Diners Club for three consecutive years (1997, 1998, and 1999), competing against carriers such as SAA and Comair.
In addition to his operational leadership, Johan provides expertise in the sale and structuring of ACMI contracts for both passenger airliners and freighters. These services are offered on a facilitation basis, with a facilitator’s fee charged per agreement
GERT MOUTON
Gert Mouton is a seasoned aviation professional with more than 49 years of experience in the industry. He served as Aircraft Sales Manager at Placo (Pty) Ltd, a company recognized for its expertise in general aviation and aircraft maintenance.
During his tenure, Gert played a key role in revitalizing Placo’s aircraft sales division, strengthening its presence in both new and pre-owned aircraft markets across Africa. His extensive knowledge and strategic insight were central to positioning the company as a trusted partner in the African aviation sector.
Respected for his professionalism and integrity, Gert is widely regarded as a reliable and principled leader whose word carries weight throughout the industry.
